Advocate Tejas Karia Sworn In As Judge Of Delhi High Court

Advocate Tejas Dhirenbhai Karia was sworn in as a judge of the Delhi High Court on Friday. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay. His appointment was officially notified by the Central Government on February 13, following the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation for his elevation in August last year.

The Collegium had highlighted Karia’s expertise in arbitration law, emphasizing that given the increasing volume of arbitration-related cases requiring specialized adjudication, particularly in the Delhi High Court, his presence on the Bench would be a valuable addition. Upon reviewing the judgments in cases he has argued, the Collegium noted that Karia has dealt with significant legal matters before various High Courts and the Supreme Court. Karia holds an LL.M. from the London School of Economics (LSE) and obtained his LL.B. from ILS Law College, Pune.

Additionally, his average net professional income of ₹709.69 lakhs over the past five years was seen as an indication of his extensive legal practice. Consequently, the Collegium deemed Tejas Dhirenbhai Karia eminently fit and suitable for appointment as a judge of the Delhi High Court.
