Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cnadidate for Wayanad Lok Sabha 2024 elections Smt. Navya Haridas has moved the Kerala High Court challenging the recent election victory of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi in the bypoll, held on November 13, 2024.
Ms Gandhi Vadra made her successful maiden electoral debut from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat after her brother and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi vacated the seat, choosing to retain family bastion Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Navya, who contested from the same constituency, lost to Priyanka by a margin of 5,12,399 votes, securing a distant third position behind Sathyan Mokeri of the Communist Party of India. In her petition, filed through Advocte Hari Kumar G Nair, Navya contends that Priyanka, during her nomination process, failed to disclose crucial information regarding the assets owned by her and her family. Navya claims that Priyanka intentionally misled the voters, withholding vital information to influence their voting decisions.
Additionally, the petition accuses Priyanka of exerting undue influence over voters and engaging in corrupt practices, as defined under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Navya asserts that Priyanka's nomination violated election laws and the conduct of elections rules. Based on these allegations, Navya has sought to set aside the election victory of the Indian National Congress Leader.
