The Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has dismissed a complaint filed against a hotel in Kolenchery concerning the non-provision of complimentary gravy alongside beef fry and parotta.
The complaint was lodged by a resident of Ernakulam, who stated that during a visit to the hotel in November 2024 with a friend, they had ordered beef fry and parotta. Upon requesting gravy with the meal, they were informed by the hotel owner that gravy was not served as a complimentary item.
Dissatisfied with the response, the complainants approached the Kunnathunadu Taluk Supply Officer. An inquiry was subsequently conducted by both the Supply Officer and the Food Safety Officer, whose report confirmed that the hotel did not have a policy of offering gravy free of charge.
Following this, the complainants approached the Consumer Commission. The bench, consisting of Commission President D.B. Binu and members V. Ramachandran and T.N. Srividya, ruled that the complaint was not maintainable. The Commission noted that there was no commitment from the restaurant to provide free gravy and that the establishment had not levied any additional charge for it.
