For 29-year-old Muhammed Yaseen, the title of Magistrate is not just a professional achievement; it is the culmination of years of perseverance, sacrifice, and unwavering determination. After overcoming significant hardships, Yaseen’s triumph in securing the second rank in the Kerala Judicial Service Examination is a sweet victory, especially given the challenges he has faced throughout his life.

Born and raised in Vilayur, a small village in Palakkad district, Kerala, Yaseen's early life was marked by abandonment. His father left the family when he was just three years old, leaving his mother, an ASHA worker, to raise him and his younger brother alone. Growing up in a single-parent household, Yaseen and his family struggled with neglect, poverty, and societal stigma. At the age of seven, Yaseen took on various odd jobs to support his mother and help provide for the family. His early roles included being a newspaper delivery boy, milk supplier, painter, construction worker, and food delivery worker.

Reflecting on his childhood, Yaseen shared, "As a child raised by a single mom, we often had to endure insulting comments from society, claiming we weren't raised well. Insults have always been my investment. During school, I was teased for being below average and was constantly pushed out of class for underperformance." Despite these harsh circumstances, Yaseen found the strength to persevere, using the negativity as fuel for his ambition.

Yaseen’s academic journey was no easier. After earning a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration and a diploma in Electronics, he pursued his dream of studying law by joining Ernakulam Government Law College in 2019. To fund his education, Yaseen continued his work as a food delivery boy for Zomato, working nights while attending classes during the day. Despite these grueling conditions, Yaseen excelled in his studies. His classmate, Shamna Sherin, recalls Yaseen’s transformation from an average student to one of the top performers in his class. "From the second semester onwards, he consistently ranked among the top five, surpassing students from privileged backgrounds," she noted.

Though he initially struggled with English, having attended a government school with a Malayalam medium of instruction, Yaseen overcame this barrier through hard work. He excelled in moot court competitions, impressing his professors and peers alike. "Yaseen's progress in law school was exceptional," Shamna said, highlighting his determination to excel despite the odds.

After completing his LLB, Yaseen enrolled as a lawyer in March 2023. His impressive legal skills quickly gained recognition, and within his first year of practice, he was honored with the Outstanding Lawyer Award. "I studied using second-hand books, wore used clothes, and cooked our meals with rice donated by the Masjid. I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported me during this journey, including my senior, Adv. Shahul Hameed PT, who gave me a space in his office even before my enrollment," Yaseen expressed.

Despite the hurdles he faced, Yaseen remained resilient, viewing each challenge as an opportunity to grow. "My life experiences made me bold and resilient, equipping me to face any challenge with a strong mind. Challenges have always been a part of my life, but I chose to see them as investments that add up over the years," he said.

In just his second year of practice, Yaseen achieved another milestone by earning the title of Magistrate after securing second place in the Kerala Judicial Service Examination. However, Yaseen is not one to rest on his laurels. "I don’t believe I’ve reached my final destination. Life is organic; it should evolve. But one thing I know for sure—today is more beautiful than yesterday," he remarked.

Yaseen’s passion for law is not just about personal success; it is about giving back to the community. As a Magistrate, he is determined to serve those who have faced the same struggles he did. "By embracing the power of positivity and holding a position of authority where I can serve justice, I will always be a representative of the oppressed classes to which I belong," Yaseen emphasized. "Who could serve them better than someone who has lived through those very circumstances?"

Muhammed Yaseen’s story is a powerful reminder that no matter how insurmountable the obstacles may seem, perseverance, hard work, and the belief in one’s dreams can lead to extraordinary success. His journey continues to inspire those who are facing their own struggles, showing that with determination, anything is possible.
