High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Announces Vacancy for Member (Judicial) in State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission

The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has issued Advertisement Notification No. 02 of 2025/RR dated 25.04.2025, inviting applications for the post of Member (Judicial) in the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Jammu & Kashmir. There is one vacancy available, and the last date for submission of applications is 15.05.2025.

 

Applicants must be at least 40 years old on the date of notification and possess a minimum of ten years of experience as a Presiding Officer of a District Court or any equivalent Tribunal, or a combination of service in both.

Candidates will be disqualified if they have been convicted for an offence involving moral turpitude, adjudged insolvent, declared of unsound mind by a competent court, removed or dismissed from government service, or if they possess financial or other interests likely to prejudicially affect the discharge of their functions.

 

The appointment will be made under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and the Consumer Protection (Qualification for appointment, method of recruitment, procedure of appointment, term of office, resignation and removal of the President and members of the State Commission and District Commission) Rules, 2020, and is subject to the outcome of civil appeal SLP (Civil) No. 25612 of 2023 pending before the Supreme Court.

 

Selected candidates must submit an undertaking regarding financial interests and a physical fitness certificate issued by a Civil Surgeon or Chief Medical Officer. Members will receive salary and allowances as per government-notified rules, and will hold office for a term of four years or until reaching the age of 65 years, whichever occurs earlier. Declaration of assets and liabilities is mandatory before assuming office, and the appointee must take an oath of office and secrecy.

 

The selection process consists of a written examination with two papers of 100 marks each and a viva-voce carrying 50 marks. Paper I includes general knowledge, current affairs, knowledge of the Constitution of India, and consumer-related laws. Paper II requires candidates to write an essay on issues related to trade, commerce, consumer matters, or public affairs, along with a case study analysis. Candidates must secure at least 50 percent marks in each paper to qualify for the viva-voce.

No additional documents are to be submitted with the application except for the Demand Draft receipt. In-service candidates must apply through proper channels.

The recruitment process and service conditions will be governed by the Jammu & Kashmir Consumer Protection (Salary, Allowances & Conditions of Service of President and Members of the State Commission & District Commission) Rules, 2021 notified vide S.O. 355 dated 18.10.2021.

 

The Selection Committee reserves the right to cancel the advertisement or issue clarifications at any stage. The date of the written examination and viva-voce will be announced separately via print and electronic media and on the official website of the High Court at https://www.jkhighcourt.nic.in.
