The SIT was formed to investigate the reported loss of gold that surfaced during the High Court’s intervention in a suo motu case. The issue arose from a report by the Special Commissioner, which stated that the gold-cladded copper covering of the Dwarapalaka idols and the peedam on which the idols were fixed had been removed without prior intimation to the court.
Earlier, the court had granted the SIT an additional six weeks to complete the probe after being informed that a scientific investigation, as directed by the court, had been initiated. The matter will be taken up next on 14 January, 2026.
