Kerala High Court to Roll Out WhatsApp Messaging for Case Listings and Proceedings

The High Court of Kerala has announced the introduction of WhatsApp messaging as an additional feature in its Case Management System (CMS), with effect from October 6, 2025. The initiative aims to ensure seamless access and timely communication for advocates, litigants, and parties appearing in person.

According to the official notification, all information related to e-filing defects, listing details, proceedings, and other relevant updates will also be communicated via WhatsApp messages. The service will be implemented in a phased manner.

The Court clarified that WhatsApp messaging will serve only as an additional mode of communication. It will not replace notices, summons, or other formal processes unless specifically notified.

To maintain security and prevent misuse, the High Court stated that all official messages will be sent exclusively from the verified sender ID: “The High Court of Kerala.” Stakeholders have been advised to verify that updates are received only from this official sender ID.

The Court has directed advocates, litigants, and parties-in-person to ensure that their WhatsApp-enabled mobile numbers are accurately updated in the CMS profile.

  • If the primary number is not WhatsApp-enabled, a secondary WhatsApp-enabled number must be added.
  • The primary number can be updated through email as per the existing procedure, while the secondary number can be updated directly through the Advocate Portal.
  • Both numbers must remain active, updated, and WhatsApp-enabled to ensure uninterrupted service.

The notification warns stakeholders to remain vigilant against fraudulent messages from unauthorized numbers or providers. Only updates from the official sender ID should be relied upon.

Additionally, the Court stated that delays or non-delivery of WhatsApp messages will not absolve stakeholders from their responsibility to appear or participate in proceedings. All information must be cross-verified on the official web portal of the Courts.

The notification was issued by Gopakumar G, Registrar General, High Court of Kerala, and circulated to relevant legal authorities, associations, and internal administrative offices.
