President Nominates Justice Vikram Nath As Executive Chairman Of NALSA

The President of India has nominated Justice Vikram Nath of the Supreme Court as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) with effect from November 24, 2025. A notification in that regard was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice announcing the President's nomination in exercise of powers under Section 3(2)(b) of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

The Gazette notification dated 19 November 2025 states that the President has appointed Justice Vikram Nath to take charge as the Executive Chairman of NALSA, succeeding the incumbent Executive Chairman in accordance with statutory procedure. The document, signed by Niraj Kumar Gayagi, Joint Secretary, records the formal appointment and specifies that the nomination becomes effective from 24.11.2025. As per established convention, the second senior-most judge of the Supreme Court is nominated as the Executive Chairman of NALSA. With this appointment, Justice Vikram Nath assumes leadership of the authority responsible for promoting legal aid, ensuring access to justice for the marginalized, and administering the nationwide legal services mechanism under the Legal Services Authorities Act.
