Supreme Court of India Invites Applications for Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate Positions

The Supreme Court of India has issued a notification inviting applications for the position of Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate on a short-term contractual basis. This recruitment aims to prepare a panel of approximately 90 candidates for the 2025-2026 assignment term. Selected candidates will receive a consolidated remuneration of ₹80,000 per month.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must fulfill the following qualifications and requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Law, including Integrated Degree Courses, from an institution recognized by the Bar Council of India for enrollment as an advocate.
- Candidates in the final year of a Five-Year Integrated Law Course or the third year of a Three-Year Law Course are eligible to apply, provided they submit proof of qualification before joining.
- Strong research and analytical skills, writing proficiency, and knowledge of legal databases and tools such as e-SCR, SCC Online, Manupatra, LexisNexis, and Westlaw.
- Candidates must be aged between 20 and 32 years as of February 7, 2025.
The recruitment process will be conducted in three phases:
Part I: Multiple-choice test assessing legal knowledge, comprehension, and analytical abilities.
Part II: Subjective written examination to evaluate writing and analytical skills.
Part III: Interview round.
The written examinations (Parts I and II) will be held on March 9, 2025, at 23 centers across India, including major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Part I will be conducted online, while Part II will require pen-and-paper answers.
- Start Date for Online Applications: January 14, 2025
- Last Date for Online Applications: February 7, 2025, by 11:55 PM
- Examination Date: March 9, 2025
Eligible candidates can apply online through the Supreme Court’s official registration link:
- Application Fee: ₹500, plus applicable bank charges, payable online via the Payment Gateway provided by UCO Bank.
- Submission Guidelines:
- Upload a recent photograph and signature as per the instructions provided.
- Ensure all details are accurate before submission, as incomplete or incorrect applications will be rejected.
- Applications cannot be modified or withdrawn once submitted.
The written examination will be conducted at the following 23 cities across India: Ahmedabad, Ambala, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, and Visakhapatnam. The number of centers may be adjusted depending on the number of applications received.
The answer key for Part I Multiple-Choice Questions will be available on the Supreme Court's website from March 10, 2025, at 12:00 Noon to March 11, 2025, at 11:59 PM. Candidates can raise objections online during this period by paying ₹100 per question, which will be refunded if the objection is found valid. Objections submitted after the deadline or without proper justification will not be entertained. Detailed instructions will be provided on the website.
General Instructions
- Admit cards will be issued based on the information provided by applicants.
- Ensure eligibility before applying, as false information will result in disqualification.
- Retain the Application Number for generating admit cards and future correspondence.
- Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
- Applications that fail to comply with instructions will be rejected.
