The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), operating under the Ministry of Law & Justice, has released a transfer order involving 15 Members across various benches of the Tribunal, with the new postings scheduled to take effect from December 8, 2025. The notification reflects an administrative reshuffle aimed at ensuring optimum allocation of judicial strength across benches experiencing varying caseloads.

The transfer order states that the decision was taken "pursuant to the consultations with the two senior most Vice Presidents," indicating that the reshuffling was carried out after due internal deliberation to address the operational requirements of the Tribunal. The order lists both Judicial Members (JM) and Accountant Members (AM) who have been reassigned to different stations across the country.

Among the notable transfers, Shri Inturi Rama Rao, AM, has been shifted from Cochin to Chennai, while Shri Laxmi Prasad Sahu, AM, has been transferred from Bangalore to Kolkata. Shri Balakrishnan S., AM, who was earlier posted at Visakhapatnam, will now serve at the Bangalore bench. Ms. Padmavathy S., AM, continues in Chennai, indicating a same-capacity transfer. Shri Sudhir Pareek, JM, has been relocated from Delhi to Jodhpur, and Shri Raj Kumar Chauhan, JM, has been reassigned from Mumbai to Delhi. Further, the order records the transfer of Shri Amitabh Shukla, AM, from Chennai to Delhi, and Shri Makarand Vasant Mahadeokar, AM, from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.

The notification specifies that Members under transfer are required to complete pending responsibilities before assuming charge of their new postings. It records that the Members “are directed to finish orders in all cases in which hearing has already been concluded,” and they should also "endeavour to dispose of all part-heard cases before handing over charge". This instruction ensures that ongoing proceedings are not disrupted due to the administrative reshuffle.
