Supreme Court Revises Working Hours | No More 2nd And 4th Saturday Closures From July 14

New Delhi, June 16, 2025 — The Supreme Court of India has issued a notification detailing amendments to the Supreme Court Rules, 2013. These changes, authorized under Article 145 of the Constitution and approved by the President, involve revisions to Rules 1, 2, and 3 of Order II and will take effect from July 14, 2025.

According to the notice, the following changes have been made:

 

  1. The offices of the Court will now operate from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on regular working days, excluding partial Court working days, Saturdays, and holidays. However, work of a non-urgent nature will not be admitted after 4:30 P.M.

 

  1. On Saturdays, except during partial Court working days, the offices will remain open from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Work that is not of an urgent nature will not be admitted after 12 Noon.

 

  1. During partial Court working days and the Christmas and New Year holidays, the offices will remain open at timings directed by the Chief Justice, except on days that are holidays for both the Court and its offices.

As a result of these amendments, the calendar entry stating “Registry will remain closed on 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month” has been removed.

 

The revised rules were published in the Gazette of India on June 14, 2025, under notification number G.S.R. 385(E). The latest update adds to a series of amendments to the Supreme Court Rules, following previous modifications issued in 2014, 2019, 2024, and earlier in 2025.
