The Central Government has approved the transfer of Delhi High Court judge Justice Chandra Dhari Singh to the Allahabad High Court, months after the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendation. The Ministry of Law and Justice issued the official notification on Friday.
The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and comprising Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant, had recommended Justice Singh’s repatriation during its meetings held on November 28 and 29, 2024.
The recommendation had remained pending with the Central Government until now. The transfer has been cleared along with a similar recommendation concerning Justice Yashwant Varma’s repatriation to the Allahabad High Court. Both Justice Singh and Justice Varma were transferred from the Allahabad High Court to the Delhi High Court in October 2021.
Justice Singh holds a law degree from Delhi University, graduating in 1993, and enrolled as an advocate in 1994. He served as an Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court and practiced primarily in Delhi. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court in September 2017 and became a Permanent Judge in September 2019.
