The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has announced an Advocacy Training Programme to be conducted in collaboration with the Bombay Bar Association (BBA), aimed at strengthening practical courtroom skills of young advocates practicing before the Supreme Court of India.
As per the circular issued on 9 February 2026, the three-day programme will be held from 13 to 15 March 2026 at the Supreme Court of India, New Delhi. The initiative is intended to provide structured and hands-on training in trial advocacy under the guidance of experienced members of the Bar.
The programme is specifically designed for advocates with up to five years of practice, with a focus on developing essential courtroom competencies rather than theoretical learning. According to the SCBA, the training will be conducted by senior and experienced faculty members from the Bombay Bar Association, along with international trainers from Malaysia, bringing both domestic and comparative advocacy perspectives to the sessions.
The training curriculum will focus on core aspects of trial advocacy, including:
- Practical sessions on case analysis and preparation
- Training in Examination-in-Chief and Cross-Examination of witnesses
- Techniques for effective oral arguments before courts
Participants will actively engage in these exercises, allowing them to apply advocacy principles in a simulated courtroom environment. The programme also emphasises individualised guidance, enabling participants to receive focused feedback on their performance.
The detailed schedule of the programme is as follows:
- 13 March 2026: 4:15 PM to 6:30 PM (Inaugural Session)
- 14 March 2026: 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM (Session I)
- 15 March 2026: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Session II)
Eligibility for the programme is limited to advocates who have obtained their Sanad between 2020 and 2025. The SCBA has capped participation at 60 advocates, reflecting the programme’s emphasis on intensive and personalised training. Selected participants will be required to submit a refundable deposit of ₹2,500, and relevant course material will be shared with them in advance to facilitate preparation.
Interested members are required to:
- Collect the Registration Form from the SCBA Office or
- Download the form from the official SCBA website (scbaindia.org)
The duly filled registration form must be submitted to the SCBA Office on or before 25 February 2026. The SCBA Office will subsequently contact the selected participants.
The programme is being organised under the leadership of Mr. Vikas Singh, Senior Advocate, President, SCBA, along with office bearers including Mr. Rahul Kaushik (Senior Advocate) as Vice-President and Ms. Pragya Baghel as Honorary Secretary, among other members of the Executive Committee.
