The Supreme Court of India has issued an advertisement inviting online applications from Indian citizens for a panel to fill vacancies in four cadres in the Registry of the Supreme Court of India, with eligibility to be counted as on March 1, 2026.

Posts on offer and pay levels

 

Assistant Editor, Supreme Court Reports — 5 posts (UR-5)


The SCI has notified five vacancies for Assistant Editor (Supreme Court Reports) in Pay Level 12, with initial basic pay of ₹78,800 plus admissible allowances. The age bracket is 30 to 40 years.


Applicants must hold a Law degree recognized for enrolment as an Advocate (or be a member of the English Bar / Attorney of a High Court in India), have computer knowledge, and meet one of the prescribed experience routes such as 3 years’ continuous practice in a High Court/Supreme Court, 3 years in a judicial post, research/teaching/law reporting experience, or specified court service experience.


Selection process: written test (Precis & Editorial Skills; Law & Constitution) followed by interview, with minimum qualifying marks specified for each stage.

 

Assistant Director (Ex-cadre), Supreme Court Museum — 1 post (UR-1)


One vacancy has been notified for Assistant Director (Ex-cadre) in the Supreme Court Museum at Pay Level 11 (initial basic pay ₹67,700 plus allowances), with age limits of 30 to 40 years.
The essential qualifications include a Master’s degree in Museology (First Class), knowledge of Indian antiquities and museum techniques, and computer operation in the related field, along with minimum 5 years’ research experience supported by published work in a museum or comparable institution.


Selection process: written test (General English/GK/Aptitude + Museology with Archaeology/History components), a qualifying computer test, and interview.

 

Senior Court Assistant (Ex-cadre), Supreme Court Museum — 2 posts (UR-2)


Two museum vacancies are available at Pay Level 8 (initial basic pay ₹47,600 plus allowances). The upper age limit is 35 years.
Candidates need a Master’s in Museology (high second class / minimum 55%) with computer knowledge and at least 2 years’ research experience (preferably exhibitions/education programmes) or 2 years’ museum work at Assistant Curator level or above.


Selection process: written test, qualifying computer test, and interview (with minimum qualifying marks).

 

Assistant Librarian — 14 posts (UR-10, SC-3, ST-1)


Fourteen posts of Assistant Librarian are advertised at Pay Level 8 (initial basic pay ₹47,600 plus allowances), with an upper age limit of 30 years. The SCI requires a Degree in Library Science, a Diploma in Computer Application/Library Automation (as specified), and demonstrated knowledge of computer operation in library work, including experience with standard library automation software and online/offline database searching. Applicants must have at least 2 years’ relevant experience in a recognized university library/law library.


Selection process: written test (Library Management + General sections), computer test (scored), and interview, with different qualifying marks for general and reserved categories.

 

Age relaxation, shortlisting and reservation

The SCI said usual age relaxation will apply for eligible categories (such as SC/ST/OBC, differently abled, ex-servicemen, dependents of freedom fighters) as per Government of India rules, while departmental candidates of the SCI Registry have no upper age limit; however, candidates from other government departments are not allowed upper-age relaxation.

 

For shortlisting, Assistant Editor candidates who qualify the written test may be called for interview in a 1:3 ratio against vacancies. For Museum posts and Assistant Librarian, written-test qualifiers may be called for the computer test in a 1:10 ratio, and those clearing both may be called for interview in a 1:3 ratio.

 

Reservation in direct recruitment will be as per Government of India rules/orders for applicable categories, subject to modifications the Chief Justice of India may specify.

 

How to apply: fee, dates, mode of payment

Applications will be accepted only through online registration, and candidates must apply separately for each post. The recruitment link will be hosted on the Supreme Court website in due course. The non-refundable application/test fee is ₹1,500 for General/OBC and ₹750 for SC/ST/Ex-servicemen/Differently Abled/Dependent of Freedom Fighters, plus bank charges, payable online via the UCO Bank payment gateway.

 

The online application window opens February 23, 2026, and closes March 8, 2026. The SCI also noted that candidates who already applied for these four posts against the July 25, 2025 advertisement need not apply again.

Exam centres and interview venue

Written/computer tests will be held in Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, while the interview will be conducted in Delhi only. Candidates must indicate their city preferences, though the Registry may shift a candidate to another city for administrative reasons.

 

Key instructions candidates should note

The Registry stated that admission to each stage (written/computer/interview) will be provisional, subject to verification of eligibility documents at the interview stage.
Applicants must upload scanned copies of photograph, signature and required documents, and should ensure details are correct because submitted applications cannot be withdrawn or modified. No admit cards will be sent by post; candidates must download them from the Supreme Court website, and test/interview dates will be notified online, with updates also shared via SMS/email.

 

The applications not complying with instructions can be rejected, and notes that in case of disputes, jurisdiction will be Delhi.
