NALSA Launches SAATHI Campaign to Assist Destitute Children in Securing Legal Identity

Kiran Raj

The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) launched the SAATHI campaign — Survey for Aadhaar and Access to Tracking & Holistic Inclusion — aimed at identifying and assisting destitute children across the country in obtaining Aadhaar and other essential identity documents. The campaign seeks to restore legal identity and ensure access to education, healthcare, and welfare entitlements for children living on streets, in shelter homes, and other vulnerable situations.

The campaign was launched in the presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice B.R. Gavai, Chief Justice of India Designate and current Executive Chairman of NALSA; Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Supreme Court of India and incoming Executive Chairman of NALSA; and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vikram Nath, Judge, Supreme Court of India.

Implemented through District Legal Services Authorities, SAATHI will function in mission mode from 15 May to 15 August 2025. It will facilitate Aadhaar enrolment, legal aid, and linkage to welfare schemes for children who lack formal identity documentation.

The gathering was addressed by the dignitaries who referred to NALSA’s constitutional commitment to ensure that no child is left behind due to lack of identity. The campaign reflects NALSA’s evolving vision under the leadership of Justice Gavai and will be carried forward by Justice Surya Kant.

SAATHI marks a milestone in NALSA’s efforts to promote inclusive justice and safeguard the rights of every child in India.
