"Union Government Appoints Calcutta High Court Judge Justice Harish Tandon as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court"

The Central government has approved the appointment of Justice Harish Tandon as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court. The announcement was made on Friday by Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (independent charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal.
Union Minister ofr Law and Justice Shri. Arjun Ram Meghwal posted on social media, "In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consultation with Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Harish Tandon, Judge of the Calcutta High Court as Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court."
The appointment follows the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium, which, on March 6, proposed Justice Tandon's elevation to the position of Chief Justice. This recommendation came after the retirement of Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, who demitted office on January 19.
Justice Harish Tandon has been serving as a judge of the Calcutta High Court since his appointment on April 13, 2010. He is a senior puisne judge of the Calcutta High Court and currently ranks seventh in the All-India Seniority list of High Court Judges. Prior to his elevation to the bench, Justice Tandon practiced primarily in civil and constitutional matters on the Appellate Side of the Calcutta High Court. His practice also extended to the City Civil Court, Debt Recovery Tribunal, and the Supreme Court.
Justice Tandon was born on November 16, 1964. He completed his graduation from Calcutta University in 1983 and obtained his LL.B. degree from Calcutta University in 1989. He was enrolled as an Advocate on September 26, 1989, and commenced practice at the Calcutta High Court.
In a related development, Justice Arindam Sinha, who is currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, was recommended by the Collegium on March 20 for transfer to the Allahabad High Court. This recommendation is pending approval from the Central government.
