The Kerala High Court Advocates' Association passed a resolution today declaring that its members will abstain from court proceedings on 09.04.2025 in protest against the steep hike in court fees introduced through the Kerala Finance Act, 2025.
Terming the increase a serious threat to democracy and the judicial system, the Association stated that it will observe the day as a 'pen down protest day'.
A Public Interest Litigation has already been filed before the High Court challenging the revised fee structure, which the Association claims reflects an increase ranging from 400% to as high as 9900%. In its resolution, the Association expressed hope that no adverse orders would be passed due to non-appearance on the protest day, stating that the objective is solely to raise public awareness about the extent of injustice caused by the fee revision
